The goal of ophthalmic technology course is to prepare competent entry–level allied healthcare staff, committed to professional development in ophthalmic instrumentation field, through life long-learning.
The program Curriculum is based on expected performance outcomes for ophthalmic technologists, following successful completion of the course.
Ophthalmic Technology program is designed to prepare the graduates in the ophthalmic field to function and look after different ophthalmic equipment and examination tools and to deal with their simple trouble shooting , to perform deferent tests examinations and investigations, and to provide broad education, technical skills and scientific knowledge necessary for working with other ophthalmic health career professionals, in caring for eye patients, and to provide broad based scientific and engineering knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for caring and maintaining equipment, as well as training others on safe operation of equipment and keeping records of tests.
Responsibilities of Ophthalmic Technologist:
- Operate ophthalmic instruments, equipment and examination tools.
- Work on diagnostic devices (Visual filed ,optic coherence topography ,Findus camera ,A and B scan and lasers ..etc.)
- Prepare and function different machines used in the theatre and laser treatment room.
- Deal with simple trouble-shooting problems of the equipment and machines.
- Care and maintain differentequipment.
- Assist in quality assurance
- Assist in field services
- Calibrateinstruments
- Train and teach other ophthalmic personnel.
- Modify existing modalities.
